Internship

Since 1995, The Department of Food Science and Technology and several Virginia Wineries have cooperatively offered internships in the fields of enology and viticulture. Students are offered an opportunity to gain first-hand work experience in the state's wineries. The program is designed primarily for students of Food Science, Horticulture, Chemistry, Biochemistry and related fields, though students in all majors are encouraged to apply. All applicants should have an interest in enology and/or viticulture; undergraduates and graduate students are welcome.

Enology interns will participate in all aspects of wine production, including grape processing, fermentation management, wine processing, sanitation and wine quality control. These internships run from approximately August 1st to November 15th.

Viticulture interns will participate in various aspects of commercial vineyards management. Internships run from May 15th to August 15th.
