Scholarships
The Department of Food Science and Technology at Virginia Tech offers many opportunities for students in the department to receive financial awards. Many are described below.
Naval ROTC - FST is now a tier 2 NROTC approved undergraduate major, meaning that NROTC students who select FST as their major can receive full ROTC scholarships. This excludes the Business program option. See the full list of NROTC approved Virginia Tech majors.
Boyd-Arline Scholarship – Historically awarded to a minority FST student with good academic standing. This scholarship is given in honor of Neal Boyd and Marcella K. Arline.
Marvin Poster Memorial Scholarship – Historically given to an FST student focusing in the area of poultry and is based on merit and financial need.
Cameron Hackney Memorial Enrichment Fund – Given to students in FST to be used for educational enrichment activities and is based on academic merit. This scholarship is given in memory of Cameron Hackney.
Corey & Charlene Berends Scholarship – Given to an undergraduate in FST based on financial need.
Sabra Dipping Company Scholarship – Awarded to an undergraduate student in FST with no specific criteria.
Tyson Foods Fund for Excellence – Awarded to an undergraduate student in FST with no specific criteria.
Virginia Association of Meat Processors Fund – Historically awarded to a student in FST who has an interest in, or emphasis on meat products.
Paul M. Large Scholarship – Historically awarded to a student in FST based on academic merit, financial need, extracurricular activities, community service, and good character.
R. F. Kelly Scholarship – Awarded to an undergraduate student in FST with no specific criteria.
W. F. Collins Memorial Scholarship – Historically awarded to a student in FST with an interest in milk and/or milk products. This scholarship is given in memory of William F. Collins, an FST Dairy Foods Faculty who had an emphasis on dairy extension.
The Harvey Scott Memorial Award – Historically awarded to a student in FST with an interest in milk and/or milk products. This scholarship is given in honor of Harvey Scott who was a leader in fluid milk processing and the dairy foods industry.
Carolina – Virginia Dairy Award – Historically awarded to a student in FST with and emphasis and interest in dairy products.
FST Achievement Award – Awarded to a student in FST, given to enhance the undergraduate student experience
FST Outstanding Senior – given to the FST Outstanding Senior
The Institute of Food Technologists offers a variety of scholarships for students who major in Food Science and will become IFT members.
